Helen the Horned Vampire

Greetings, Friends!

Once again, it’s been far too long. My artwork continues to evolve and improve and today I have something to share. My latest creation is 100% traditional, starting with a pencil sketch, then inking, then lots and lots of acrylic color. I’m quite happy with character design and pose, and though I did have some trouble initially with the background, I’m very happy with how it turned out in the end.

What do you think of the character design? What would life be like as a horned vampire? What kind of city does she live in? Do horned vampires have any special abilities that ordinary vampires do not? Would she be jealous of those among us with the ability to wear hats?

And after almost two weeks careful crafting on dear Helen, I decided to let loose last night, with a bit of abstract artwork. Just the thing for curing any residual work-related stress in preparation for a fantastic weekend. I call it “Nightmare in Neon.”

And with that, I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

  1. She’s so pretty! Interesting questions too. I’ve been reading a lot of books lately that feature mixed breed beings so a horned vampire does not strike me as strange. I suppose the humans would think she was a cosplayer if she were to be out and about, what with the horns. Love the chaos of the painting!

  2. I LOVE HER!!!! I’m so happy to see you back and gifting us with your creative soul. Those colours are amazing! I know all too well about being gone too long… every day I think I’ll get a chance to get back to writing, something else blow’s up around here lol. This may just be the inspiration I need – the spur to once again speak up and demand time for my creative self.

  3. Love her and seeing her in this space!
I’ve been thinking about how so many of us just don’t have the time and/or energy to post in these spaces we so lovingly created. I miss writing and visiting everyone and keep think, today is the day… and yet, it rarely ever is.
Hope all is well with you and David!

  4. Helen, I imagine, is a huge success as an entertainer, thus able to hire a custom hat maker to suit her moods. Her myriad fans need but stare down those members of society that militantly want us all to be alike and agree with or even submit to their rules. Of course, she is a person of numerous interests and talents. Go, Helen.
