Why link up @ s~A(R)T~urday

Welcome to the weekend. Welcome to Saturday art linky

s~A(R)T~urday

Did I just say ‘welcome to the weekend’? The weekend is already old. This morning as I am typing this, I feel as old as this weekend. So, expect less words, even less crafted from me than usual. If you wonder what happened, we were invited over by friends to have dinner at their place last night. We hadn’t seen them in a while, in fact we had not been to their place yet. ‘Their place’ being a beautiful old apartment in the middle of Hoboken. The area and the building reminded me a lot of Mannheim, Germany where I used to live in the old part. Getting there during rush hour and finding a parking place along the road proved just as challenging as back in Germany. Made worse by the current piles of snow and ice along the streets. But our trusty XTerra moved us up one of those piles and waited for us all night. o.k. not all night, but by the time we left, even the streets of Hoboken were quiet. And when we got home, Whippany was fast asleep. At 3:15 am – zzzzzz.

Good thing I created and prepared today’s picture by scrunging a few minutes every day last week.

Due to the fact that I had just started an online art course in January and 2015 had just begun, I rushed a little into this linky a couple of weeks ago without much warning or words. I do feel though that I need to explain my s~A(R)T~urday a little. There are actually three reasons behind my offering this opportunity to showcase your art a little.

  1. I love art, see and experience, fantasize and dream, live and create it
  2. For a long time I wanted to create my own link up. One that represents – me, in a creative sense, of course, = art
  3. A while back there used to be a photo art link up I participated in a few times, but Bonnie (Photo Art Friday) is taking an extended break

There are oh.so.many link ups out there on the web it is mind-boggling. You can get seriously lost in any number of them. While they can be a big time sucker they are also always a lot of fun. Behind each link up there usually is – at some point – a dedicated community. One that over time I am hoping to build with my link up, too. Please don’t be intimidated that I am calling this an art linky. Simply share some of your creations. Art is completely subjective. It takes courage and time to realize that you may actually call your own creations art. And if you believe they are pieces of art, I believe they are. They may be good or bad or great – who am I to say?! I’d rather like to think along these words from Andy Warhol:

Don’t think about making art, just get it done.  Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.  While they are deciding, make even more art.”

Having said that I want this link up to be open to all arts. Yes, my personal medium is photography and photo art, which is what you will be getting from me. But I do not want to put a limit on my art link up and thus it is open to all forms of (somewhat) visual art. I am saying somewhat, as it has to be able to be displayed in a digital way here on the website. That does include

photography – yes, straight out of the camera is fine, too

– as long as you think it is art –

photo art – edited, enhanced, destroyed, composited – whatever

– as long as you think it is art –

writing – I don’t have the words to describe this one, but…

– as long as you think it is art –

painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, design, crafts, video, graphic design… everything!

– as long as you think it is art – it is art – show it!

    • Thank you, Cherie. I truly love all kinds of arts, which is why I want it to be open. Of course, there are those I do not understand or personally do not like, but I just love the fact that we create.
Absolutely, we will stick together in this! 🙂

  1. Oh this image packs a powerful punch!!! the eyes are so intense and just pop right out of the image. The colours are fantastic.. I mean, look at that touch of blue green in the eyes around the earth shades!! All seamlessly blended. Fantastic!
After I had finished mine — the thought occurred to me that perhaps I should have written a few lines of my poem ONTO the image. duh!
Well, I can still do that for myself, but it won’t be in the linked post.

    • Thanks so much, Leslie. Your words – as always – love them 🙂
Yes, absolutely you can still add the words. Can’t you upload it new to your blogspot?
Hm, as for the linky here, did you want your avavatar on there? Or is that a linky error? I am asking, because I am having that issue with Mr. Linky or linkytools on other blogs – and I hate it!

  2. Wow. That looks so cool! It’s been so long since I’ve done anything art related. You are inspiring me, my friend. At least maybe I’ll have a new motivation to get some digital scrapbooking done. And I might even take to paper and pen and actually draw something too! 😉

    • Thanks a lot, Janice! It is amazing how we can push art out of our lives. But we miss it so much, right?! I am so glad that you felt inspired by this. And I hope that you will keep creating.
YOu know I have never been into scrapbooking. But I am just getting in touch with it now, a little. And it really looks fascinating. I am sure you can create some wonderful pieces with it.

  3. Very fey. Right now I am reading Jonathan Howard’s “Johannes Cable and the Fear Institute” which takes place in Dreamland. Your picture looks like one of the creatures that live in Dreamland! That is so cool! If you ever read the book, pay attention to the creature called “dref”.

    • Fey – where have I heard that before… hm, Morgen Le Fay? I have not heard of that book yet. But – a vacation is coming up soon, so maybe I should check it out for my kindle… Certainly sounds like a cool book.

    • Thanks for the heads up, Tamar. I hope it will build and prevail. Art is so important and you have to start somewhere. So here I am 🙂 I’m happy to link up creativity and randomness whenever given the opportunity.

    • They are, aren’t they? I love them all. And I love that they are so different, each one is special.
Not one of my best pieces, but I wanted to try something new in PS, which worked well, but then I had ‘problems’ with the finish 😉
