ast year in October I was lucky enough to be able to go on a trip to Charleston, SC. Together with David I got to spend a a few days, a lot of it work related, but with time to spare. Naturally we did some sightseeing and I took a lot of photos.
Our trip to Charleston started as usual with a drive to Newark airport to fly to and finally arrive into Charleston around noon. We had pre-booked a tour of Fort Sumter, so we didn’t stay long in our wonderful hotel, the Charleston Place situated in the middle of Charleston’s historic district. Instead we called a riksha, stopped for a sandwich at a deli and waited in the Fort Sumter museum for the ferry to take us to the fort. It only takes half an hour for the boat trip, but no matter when and where I always enjoy being on the water.
On the second day our sightseeing trip to Charleston included a horse carriage tour through the old district. While this may sound cheesy it was in fact real nice. Our driver was pretty knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing it with us while we drove through the small back roads of the historic district. The evening was another highlight of our trip. A visit of the USS Yorktown including dinner on board the hangar deck. We could wander around the ship and enjoyed the beautiful sunset while being on the flight deck in between all different kinds of planes.
Business activities filled the following day except for a harbor tour by boat. I think I mentioned before that I love boat tours, right? This one was no different. We couldn’t always understand what the guide said through the loudspeakers, but I didn’t care, because most of it we had heard the previous days. So instead we concentrated on enjoying the scenery, the sunshine and warm breeze while sitting on the top floor. On a side note, I am pretty sure I would not want to sit in that sun during summer! Being mid October it was still hot, being so much further south. Another fun thing to watch out for while around these waters are dolphins. We saw some a couple of times. Magnificent!
The next day was the final one of our trip to Charleston. I wandered around town a little while David caught up on work, before having a late lunch with me. Later in the afternoon we left for the airport and arrived with a three hour delay back in Newark. Another trip over with, but hopefully not our last trip to Charleston, because it is a beautiful and old city with lots of history.

Thank you, Ruby.
I went once very briefly to visit Charleston. It was a disaster but I have always wanted to go back and revisit to see what I missed. It appears I missed quite a bit. 🙂
Maybe we can go together, because I want to return to Charleston, too!
Wow, your photos are stunning! I love the first one at the marina ,and those big, beautiful white mansions – I want one. Beautiful!
Thank you, Cindy. Marinas are always fun and I wouldn’t mind a mansion around there either – LOL
These pictures are stunning…you represented this city well! Visiting from Jenny Matlock.

Glad you like my photos, Laurie.
Great photos (as always)! I’m glad you got to do some sightseeing while in Charleston. I’ve heard it’s a very beautiful city.
Thank you, Jamie 🙂 It sure is beautiful. I hope you get to visit it one day, too.
Ordinary Words…Delightful montage♫♪
Photos are supposed to be the music of my website :). Thank you for stopping by, Laurie.
Charleston is a lovely city — such history and beauty, although our carriage driver pronounced slavery not such a bad thing. My husband held me back by my belt as I tried to leap up and set her straight. A teachable moment for our young daughters, at any rate. I would be glad of a winter home on Rainbow Row 🙂
Oh my… that would have seriously ticked me off, too, Sue. Such a shame to hear that today and on top of that from a tour guide – very bad! I hope it didn’t totally ruin your visit. Yes, I agree, Rainbow Row is lovely 🙂
You were getting mighty close to me here! I’m in NC. You are getting warmer…
Maybe I am zeroing in on you, Jamie – LOL. Seriously, I’ll most likely be in NC again early October next year 🙂 Windsurfing in Hatteras – YEAH
awesome p ictures there, it looks nice to visit, I guess I need to make my trip back to the east coast one day to check out all the sight seeing again 🙂
Yes, Joelle, come and visit! But I am 100 % certain that there equally many things to see on the west coast.
Absolute;y gorgeous pics of Charleston -that first one taken with a wide angle lens? Also love the pics of the planes in the hangars! Thanks for visiting my blog:)
Hi Emille, thank you for returning the visit 🙂 The first photo is a panorama made out of six individual photos. Later today I might post the same photo with another six photos added so you can see more of the clouds 🙂
Being from the south, I love all the architecture of the Southern mansions. And your tour and dinner on board the USS Yorktown sounds awesome!
Thanks for your visit to my blog!!
Thanks, Sarah – I enjoyed my visit, both in Charleston and on your blog, too.
Lovely photos – have always regretted not spending time there as we lived in Savannah for a while when my husband was stationed there during the ’60’s. Know I would have enjoyed it so much!
I’m sure you would have enjoyed Charleston. But Savannah is supposed to be very nice, too. Thank you for stopping by!
Charleston is a wonderful city! I got to visit it once when my daughter was looking at the College of Charleston. Thanks for sharing your wonderful images!
You’re welcome! I’m glad I could bring back nice memories.
I adore Charleston.
It’s been many years since I’ve visited there, but your charming post brought back so many memories!
I shall have to go again soon!
In the meantime, though, I appreciate you letting me visit through your very wonderful link.
Thank you for sharing.
