Scary Comic Art for s~A(R)T~urday w/linky

Welcome to the weekend. Welcome to Saturday art linky!

s~A(R)T~urday

I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart.” Vincent van Gogh

Part one and two of van Gogh’s quote are clear to see, aren’t they? I just can’t help it. There are so many things out there to test and trial, evaluate, get rid of or take further. Do not ask me how I came up with this kind of scary comic art like piece – it simply happened. I took a couple of photos, had an idea (or maybe it was the other way around) and then I started dabbling in Photoshop. A lot. I think I know at least one person who won’t like this one. Heck, I don’t even know if I like it. But – I created it. That is what is important.

A lot of things kept me from creating lately. Too much worrying if I will have to have surgery on my foot, going back to work and catching up on stuff – which, for the record, I have not been able to, David on a biz trip. Let’s just say it has not been the best of weeks. But despite those circumstances and not always feeling like anything really, I created this image. And now it is what it is.

And as for the foot, good news as there is no surgery need. ‘Only’ a cast for three to four weeks, then a walking boot for ‘I-don’t-know-how-long’, then physical therapy. May I just say: The future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades. But it sure beats the alternative.

So, how have you been? Share with us what you have created lately or some time ago.

Since this is a new link up I think I will leave my little explanation up in this post . There are actually three reasons behind my offering this opportunity to showcase your art a little.

  1. I love art, see and experience, fantasize and dream, live and create it
  2. For a long time I wanted to create my own link up. One that represents – me, in a creative sense, of course, = art
  3. A while back there used to be a photo art link up I participated in a few times, but Bonnie (Photo Art Friday) is taking an extended break

There are oh.so.many link ups out there on the web it is mind-boggling. You can get seriously lost in any number of them. While they can be a big time sucker they are also always a lot of fun. Behind each link up there usually is – at some point – a dedicated community. One that over time I am hoping to build with my link up, too. Please don’t be intimidated that I am calling this an art linky. Simply share some of your creations. Art is completely subjective. It takes courage and time to realize that you may actually call your own creations art. And if you believe they are pieces of art, I believe they are. They may be good or bad or great – who am I to say?! I’d rather like to think along these words from Andy Warhol:

Don’t think about making art, just get it done.  Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.  While they are deciding, make even more art.”

Having said that I want this link up to be open to all arts. Yes, my personal medium is photography and photo art, which is what you will be getting from me. But I do not want to put a limit on my art link up and thus it is open to all forms of (somewhat) visual art. I am saying somewhat, as it has to be able to be displayed in a digital way here on the website. That does include

photography

– yes, straight out of the camera is fine, too – as long as you think it is art –

photo art

– edited, enhanced, destroyed, composited – whatever – as long as you think it is art –

writing

– I don’t have the words to describe this one, but… – as long as you think it is art –

painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, design, crafts, video, graphic design… everything!

– as long as you think it is art – it is art -show   it

  1. Dear Claudia,

First, Happy Spring to you! I am SO glad to hear that your weekend is looking up and you do NOT have to have surgery on your foot! Even though having a cast doesn’t sound like fun, I’m sure that the time will fly by (and hey – perhaps you’ll have time to rest and create MORE art while you heal!)

I like today’s art – it’s interesting. Did you ever watch Seinfeld? There’s an episode where a woman paints Kramer and his portrait draws a wide range of reactions because everyone finds it so provocative – everyone has a different opinion of him – but in the end, they can’t take their eyes off of him. Your photo reminds me of that. I don’t know what to make of the guy at first glance – so I find myself going back to it, trying to assess my reactions, trying to figure him out!

Have an awesome weekend and hope to see you at Inspire Me Monday! 🙂

    • Thank you so much and the biggest of all apologies that I am only getting back to your lovely comment a week later (ts ts ts). I or rather we seem to be getting into the swing of things. Slowly. Every so slowly. And the things I can do, just take time. But we’ll see. I did create another couple of images though this week 🙂 that’s a start!

No, I actually never watched Seinfeld. But you are describing a very common or rather generally looked for aspect of art pieces. To captivate the viewer. It does not matter if it is in controversy or agreement, as long as the viewer takes the time to work with the art piece, I think it is pretty much a success. Thank you.

p.s. I checked out Salad Love and it sounds amazing. I love salads.

  2. So glad the foot does not need surgery. I was quite surprised at the picture. Lots going on there. I like that you think it is both comic and scary. Its a fine line to walk. Sure, there are scary/comic things all over the place, especially in art and movies. But too many cross the line with it turning campy or silly scary. This piece does make you sit and think about what is going on and its not campy or silly. I quite like it!

    • Thank you very much, Debbi. I really like the fact that this piece seems to have controversial reactions, because it shows that you are not just brushing over another nice photo, but taking your time with it, which I appreciate a lot since time is so valuable today.

  3. Glad you won’t need foot surgery. I enjoyed this image and all that is going on with it. Definitely creative! Sorry this week hasn’t been the best, I’m sure this upcoming week will be much better. 🙂

  4. cool. way cool.
love the kinda scary feel to this. since I am a fan of The Walking Dead – you know it takes a bit to scare me. 🙂
glad to hear the foot is going to heal on its’ own and no surgery required. yeah!!
I have enjoyed my internet break – although as you can see I am peeking in on my favourites (wink), and looking forward to returning with some fresh ideas. see you next Saturday! 🙂

    • The Walking Dead – oh yes. You know I don’t watch that show and I do get scared somewhat easily. It kind of depends on the scare. Too much ‘blood’ (TWD) just grosses me out.
So glad that you are peaking in on me, really like that 🙂

  5. Yay for not needing surgery! I’m starting physical therapy this week for a shoulder injury that has been lingering for almost 2 months now, and while I’m glad it won’t be surgery, I’m not looking forward to physical therapy.

I’m not sure what to make of your photo. I haven’t done much playing around in PhotoShop. Figuring it out is one of my goals, although I don’t know when that’s going to happen LOL! So many other things to do, so many photos to take.

Thank you for joining my link-up this week! You are so right about the community that pops up around link-ups. It’s fun and supportive and encouraging and inspiring. It’s part of why I wanted to start a link-up! That and wanting to get more expsure for my own work. I wanted somewhere to share and thought that I must not be the only one.

Let me do some thinking this week, and I’ll be joining you next week!

    • Uh oh, PT + shoulder injury does not sound like fun either. I am like you: Glad for no surgery, but the rest – no fun, right?!
There are definitely always a ton of things to do and gazillions of photos to take. But then there will be times for editing, too, when you just dig into your hard drives and find some treasures and work with them. The way you sound, I am certain one day you will go beyond basic editing and have even more fun in Photoshop. Which might take you a while though, so don’t give up!

  6. I’m pretty sure the person you were thinking wouldn’t like it isn’t me! I do like it. You created it from your smart brain.
So glad about the no surgery! So sorry about the stresses – I’ve had them too and I just keep thinking that at least it’s during lousy weather. I think some warm sun will make everything a bit easier.

    • Nope, it wasn’t you. Although I did not know if you would like it. Then again you are into scifi, fantasy and stuff, too, sooo…. 🙂
Booooh for stresses! I mean, yes, a little of it really can get you going, right? But, too much is – just too much, right?! I really, really hope that spring finally gets a handle on winter, although it is still freezing at night. But the forecast for the coming week is pretty good, so I’ll be looking forward to that. Positive thinking is very important.
