Creating a game – day 4

Thanksgiving – day 4 of creating a game in 4 days

These are our re-caps of day 0, day 1 and day 2, day 3),

And here is a little animation of the wicked witch walking – unfortunately I couldn’t figure out how to loop the walking for this short clip, so you have to use your imagination. Or use the replay button.

Claudia did some nice background images to improve the images for the trees, sky, horizon, etc. She also did an animation for the witch when flying (which is not apparent in a static image).

We both worked on setting up the introduction screen, and David developed a system to play text files so as to tell the background story… which by the way is hilarious! Then a few icons to explain how to play the game, some additional enhancements to the GUI, a functioning potion brewing system (although the potions themselves don’t do anything yet)… and a much moodier background.

So, the result after 4 days is a playable, understandable game. Not in the overall quality that we would have liked, but we did set ourselves a very ambitious target. Yes, caffeine-fueled 25 year olds could have probably completed the project, but we are no longer 25, and need to sleep occasionally :-). A further success is that we are still married, and on speaking terms. So, the project is a success. We will continue to enhance the game in future weekends.

Thanks for following along! And for those of you who are interested in trying it out –

would you like to see the “beta version”, or wait until it’s a bit more polished?

Please let us know in the comments, will you? Thanks.

Why don’t you join me along my journey and follow me on  and  if you prefer and see what I come up with next. You can, of course, also subscribe by email – (click) here or you may follow my blog with Bloglovin or my preferred reader Feedly.

I hope that over time we will be building a community dedicated to art and creating. I rather like these words said by Andy Warhol:

Don’t think about making art, just get it done.

Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.

While they are deciding, make even more art.”
