Graveyard fairytale style

Welcome to the weekend. Welcome to my fairytale style Saturday linky party – s~A(R)T~urday!

They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.” Andy Warhol

This morning I was going to look for a different quote to go with my image. But then I thought, no, in a way it is just perfect for my storybook or fairytale style church graveyard. What better symbol for change than a graveyard? Don’t worry, I do not have a death wish, maybe a somewhat morbid taste for imagining the stories and the history when I wander through a cemetery. Wandering past markers that date back to the 17th or 18th century takes my mind places…

300 (!) years. So many lives. So much creativity. Just imagine.

That is a lot of time gone by. Lots of people, lots of changes and a ton of art got created in their and our lives. Graveyards are wonderful, quiet places for contemplation and remembrance. Yet also for finding wonderful art and symbolism. If you are interested in learning a bit about them check out a series about graveyard symbolism: Graveyard Art I – IV I did a couple of years ago with my partner in crime TwistedpixelStudio. Of course, I only provided – most – of the photos. Debbi is the one who could teach you a thing or two about the art to be found on gravestones.

Back to the present, last week the final entry to my linkup came from Mary. And her entry is not photoart, but writing. I think I cannot mention it enough, so I will do it again: Art comes in almost as many ways as there are people. My Saturday link up is not limited to photoart, but is open to any form of art (i.e. ‘as long as YOU think it’s art, it is art’). Please have your writer friends join in our community and have a read of Mary’s poem: Last week’s entry here.

Tell me, what are you going to do this weekend? While we are still waiting, rather impatiently, for our truck to be repaired we will probably not be going far for a bike ride. But I’m sure we will still be enjoying the beautiful summer weather. I hope you do, too, where ever you are. Thank you for being part of our little art community, I look forward to seeing what you have been creating.

I hope that over time we will be building a community dedicated to art and creating. My personal medium is photography and photo art, but I do not want to put a limit on my art link up. Thus I encourage you to join me, no matter which your art form is. Please do not be intimidated that I am calling this an art link up. I want you to share your creations. Art is completely subjective. It takes courage and time to realize that you may actually call your own creations art. If you believe they are pieces of art, I believe they are. They may be good or bad or great – who am I to say?! I’d rather like to think along these words from Andy Warhol:

Don’t think about making art, just get it done.

Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.

While they are deciding, make even more art.”

Why don’t you join me along my journey and follow me on fbgo and tw if you prefer and see what I come up with next. You can, of course, also subscribe by email – (click) here or you may follow my blog with Bloglovin or my preferred reader Feedly.

Drop me a comment and you’ll make me smile!

  1. I love this. I apologize for my absence. I should be back now that the minions are asserting more independence.
I linked my poem from this week. My “artwork” is still words. I admire your artwork; it is both visual & emotional.

    • No apologies necessary, Annie! Come on, I’d be doing nothing but apologizing, if I started for all the times that I have been absent. There will always be times when other things are (way) more important than blogging.
Your artwork is wonderful. And I always love the photos of your kitties, too.

  2. Oh I love that picture! It made me smile. Like the tombstone was photobombing! LOL. Thanks also for mentioning me. That was such a fun collaboration wasn’t it? I learned a great deal from the whole endeavor as there were questions asked that I had to do some more research on too! My link up deals with change. Seems we have been discussing that a lot lately. Hoping the rest of your weekend is relaxing and full of good food and laughter.

    • I hope it would, Debbi, sounded like you needed a smile 🙂 Indeed, it was a very fun collaboration. You learned a lot? Guess then how much I learned… You know what, you and I are not the only one dealing with change and too much stuff etc. I truly believe that it is just part of a constant up and down.
I had / am having a great weekend, well, except for the fact that it is windy enough for windsurfing, but we don’t have a car yet – grrrh, but I am sitting on our balcony enjoying the beautiful summer weather and working on my laptop – great!

  3. As always – beautiful and thought-provoking.

It’s been an interesting weekend so far – I got out for some photography, husband piddled around the house, and tomorrow we are going to do some more yard piddling. Hopefully more photography tomorrow as well. I hope you are having a good weekend, Claudia!

    • Thanks, Jen, I like ‘thought-provoking’ 🙂 My weekend is going great, except for the fact that it is now Sunday evening and it is about over. But that’s part of life. There will be another weekend. Looking forward to next Friday!

  4. Cemetries are interesting, aren’t they. So much history … so much creativity. Very interesting photo art; wonder what the original picture looked like. Very nice blend of colours and good spacing of the objects 🙂 #CommentLuv

  5. Sorry, don’t know if my last comment went through or not. Really lovely photoart, I wonder what the original picture looked like. I like the colour blend and spacing between the key objects. 🙂 Lovely linky; I’ll hopefully join in sometime. #CommentLuv

    • Both comments came through, no worries. I’m happy that you like my image. It is actually a composite of five of my photos plus a few textures and script 🙂
Yes, please do join us, our community is still small and young and growing.

  6. it’s beautiful and somewhat eerie, yet pleasant all at the same time. I tend to not think about death when in such places, but also the history and the stories that are buried there beneath the surface. or even sometimes carved in the stone above. It’s fascinating what you can learn from walking through an old cemetery.

sorry, I missed this one – but I gave you a shout out with a picture I did too.
And we are off again this weekend to the following weekend so I will miss two more!!! ugh.
On the bright side: I will come back with tons of pictures! 🙂
