3rd week of November’s Art Every Day and also in NaBloPoMo

November 20th

Today is day #20 of AEDM and NaBloPoMo – and also the – ahem – Friday Friendly Fill Ins. Sorry, I am once again so late to the party, but seriously these fill ins are such fun, you definitely should check them out. The Friendly Fill-Ins are four fun and easy statements to complete. Ellen of 15andmeowing provides the first two statements and the final two are offered by Annie of McGuffys Reader. We try to make sure they will be fun to both answer and share. On Friday, the linky will be posted at or about 12:00 AM. Please come back, link up, and share your thoughts! Below are this week’s statements with the blanks.

I also wanted to continue my photo series of the Pacific Northwest. After showing you photos of the beach and driftwood twice (here with webs), the moss&fern and also the Nooksack Falls, it is now time to show you the Nooksack River. Boy, did we find a great spot to wander around and also dip our feet into the ice cold water (mental note: Bring something to dry your feet with). It was awesome and I will let below photos speak for themselves.

As you will see these are all (semi) long exposures to emphasize the flowing water. I have almost the exact same photos freezing the water’s flow and I will show you those in tomorrow’s post. Then you can tell me which way to photograph water you prefer.

  1. One Thanksgiving tradition I have is none. Well, o.k. the turkey, homemade everything i.e. stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce etc., but Thanksgiving was not a big thing where I grew up, and it still isn’t. Now with David and living in the US, of course, it has grown (on me) exponentially.
  2. Black Friday – no way, Jose. Crowds and I, we don’t do so well together. Unless it is a well planned, and well worth it occasion like a concert or The Rockefeller Treelighting or such. But for shopping?! No, no, no, not me.
  3. The best part about Thanksgiving Day is may I be honest? For me it is the long weekend. If my family were close it would definitely be the family get together, but not this year. Maybe we’ll meet for Christmas.
  4. One Thanksgiving, hmm – sorry, I am drawing a blank. As I said, I am fairly new to the holiday known as Thanksgiving, but if I had to pick something it would be Thanksgiving at David’s parent’s place, because… family… and Thanksgiving

I hope you enjoyed these photos (gallery below – please click on a photo to open them to view larger, it is worth it) of the PNW.

Cheers,

If I have time I will be linking with one or more of the fine people in this collection – check them out!

  1. Water flow is different in these. Restful. Thanksgiving is not a day of celebration for me anymore. I might fix a plate of goodies for myself but with parents gone and family scattered, I prefer just to stay home. As for Black Friday. NO. I rarely shop offline anyway anymore! 🙂

  2. I love these photos. This is my kind of place. One reason I love the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the many places like this.
I thank you for joining us for Friendly Fill-Ins! I hope more people will join you in sARTurday. I am already ready for next week! I really am working on my writing. I need to write and get it out there. So, thank you for the outlet and the push. BIG HUGS.
P.S. I am thankful for people like you.

  3. Gorgeous! I really need to try long exposure. Love how the water looks like soft ribbons flowing across the rocks. I am looking forward to seeing some of my family this Thanksgiving, but the specifics may change a little as I have a new nephew due any minute. Quite exciting. Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

  4. Hello my lovely German Strudel! 😀 First up, these photos are gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love the long exposure on the water! That’s something that requires a tripod which I very much need and want. Maybe, I need to get my letter off to Santa now requesting one this year. He might be able to swing it this time. I heard he picked up a side gig at an Engineering Firm. Anywho, back to your photos. The water has taken on the shade of green from the forest in most of your pictures, which is beautiful. I really, really want to see the pacific northwest, especially the coast line but then there’s the hidden beauty of the woods out there. I gotta get out there someday! I’m glad to hear our Thanksgiving holiday is rubbing off on you. As I a kid I saw the holiday as an in-between thing (Halloween & Christmas) and didn’t have near the appreciation for the occasion as I do as an adult. The pilgrims got it right by setting aside a special day of thanks and while we should always give thanks every day, I think it’s fantastic to have this one day each year to show the Lord our gratitude for all He has given us. It’s also a good time to tell those in your life how much appreciate them, too. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, dear friend!

  5. Definitely love the long exposure look of flowing water!! I gotta try this one day…. course it may have to wait now until it’s not freezing outside! I’ll have to do some research on how to do it, but I absolutely love the look it gives to the photo. It really make it life-like.
If you lived closer, we’d have you over for Canadian Thanksgiving — then it would still be nice enough out to go for a photo walk. 🙂
