My new blogroll with Pressgram

pressgramOn Wednesday I decided to update my blog page, effectively making it a blogroll. Meaning that you will now see more of a particular post right on the blog page. And then you can simply scroll down to see more and also the next post, hence the name ‘blogroll’. Not sure if that is what it really stands for, but for me this is a blogroll.

Why did I do this? Well, there is this new app(lication) for smartphones – Pressgram. At this point actually only for iPhones, but they will be working on an Android version very soon. I fell in love with it, because not only does it allow me to filter and share my iPhone images on the web through their service, yes, like Instagram, but it also let’s me share it immediately to my wordpress blog. In one go. Or, in case you have more than one blog, also to several blogs. At the same time. And on top of all this: The photo stays mine! Unlike services like Instagram or Facebook that basically strip you, who took the photo, who owns the photo of exactly those photo rights. Have you ever read: We reserve the right to… use it if we want to. That doesn’t go down too well with me as a photographer. I am not much for legalese especially if it is in English, so if you’re curious or haven’t heard, do a google search for the new facebook TOS and you will get lots of hits. And lots of opinions.

In any case, this and the fact that my phone photos will post directly to my blog convinced me to try Pressgram. And, yes, it took a moment to set up with my blog. Yes, there are a few things I am missing, but – hey, it is brand new! I am confident and certain that John Saddington, the creator of Pressgram, and his team are working on it. He has built a great community around Pressgram & WordPress and it is fun to watch it evolve and grow and to be part of it. Heck, I had so much fun on there that during this whole week I only posted 4 (!) photos on Instagram.

Right, but what does that have to do with my blog? There is a Pressgram WordPress plugin that will let you filter which ones of the photos that you shared via Pressgram will appear on your blog. So, essentially you can have them upload to your wordpress site i.e. save them at the back end for e.g. later posting, so the photos won’t clutter your homepage immediately. Which I guess is something I have been guilty of for the past 7 days that Pressgram is alive. But from now on I will post maybe one or two photos per day only to the blog. These photos are regular posts. And as such they will also end up in my site’s and my subscribers’ feeds. For now, you can tell a Pressgram post apart from a ‘normal’ blog post, because in the feed it won’t have featured photos. Just thought I’d let you know. Want to have a look at my Pressgram photos? Here is a link to all of them on my blog so far.

So, if you have an iPhone and like to snap photos with it and share them, check out Pressgram. And while you’re at it, find me there under: @ImagesByCW, of course!

And now to the regular feature of Friday Four Fill ins ~ here is from Hilary’s blog:

Each week, I plan on listing four statements with a blank for you to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to me  . If I use them, I will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Pam from Trooppetrie– she came up with the last two statements! I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY NEED SOME STATEMENTS!

I would LOVE it if you could please help me spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, andadd the linky to your post…

This week’s statements:

Photobucket

1) Mornings are the best time to work on my blog or some website project.
2) No matter how hard I try I still can’t get out of bed before 6 am though.
3) When I was young I thought turning 30 meant hm, no idea – being too old to get married? but now I know it means good times ahead!
4) I love to cook simple & healthy meals for dinner. When I am in a hurry my go to meal is either mixed salad and boneless chicken or pasta (from Trader Joe’s) with (self-made) marinara sauce.

Why not get every new post by me into your inbox without delay? You can by subscribing (click) here. Or you can follow me on facebook, google+ and twitterif you prefer.

  1. I cannot wait to try Pressgram when it becomes available on Android. The option to have it go straight to WordPress alone is so worth a try.
I love salad with grilled or crispy chicken – yum! Have a great weekend. 🙂

    • I know, Susi, it is pretty not bad. I really like it. It is amazing how little time I am spending now on Instagram and also, it is true, blog traffic increased 🙂 There are always possibilities to improve or change, but so far, I really like it. Hope you have a great weekend, too! But with your family I am sure you will 🙂

    • It sure is, Judy. After a week I am loving it. Seriously. It is as much fun as Instagram, but with the advantage of pointing to your own website and without the hassle of worrying about where your image could end up.
Morning work outs are great, although, now that fall is creeping in and it is getting light later… it is going to be tougher and tougher 🙁

    • I love this app, Leslie. The thing is, you don’t HAVE to post all photos to your blog. You can also just post one or some or none and simply use the app for sharing within itself or to facebook and twitter while keeping ownership of your photos. However, it only works with wordpress blogs – maybe you should consider moving 😉
