Why did I do this? Well, there is this new app(lication) for smartphones – Pressgram. At this point actually only for iPhones, but they will be working on an Android version very soon. I fell in love with it, because not only does it allow me to filter and share my iPhone images on the web through their service, yes, like Instagram, but it also let’s me share it immediately to my wordpress blog. In one go. Or, in case you have more than one blog, also to several blogs. At the same time. And on top of all this: The photo stays mine! Unlike services like Instagram or Facebook that basically strip you, who took the photo, who owns the photo of exactly those photo rights. Have you ever read: We reserve the right to… use it if we want to. That doesn’t go down too well with me as a photographer. I am not much for legalese especially if it is in English, so if you’re curious or haven’t heard, do a google search for the new facebook TOS and you will get lots of hits. And lots of opinions.
In any case, this and the fact that my phone photos will post directly to my blog convinced me to try Pressgram. And, yes, it took a moment to set up with my blog. Yes, there are a few things I am missing, but – hey, it is brand new! I am confident and certain that John Saddington, the creator of Pressgram, and his team are working on it. He has built a great community around Pressgram & WordPress and it is fun to watch it evolve and grow and to be part of it. Heck, I had so much fun on there that during this whole week I only posted 4 (!) photos on Instagram.
Right, but what does that have to do with my blog? There is a Pressgram WordPress plugin that will let you filter which ones of the photos that you shared via Pressgram will appear on your blog. So, essentially you can have them upload to your wordpress site i.e. save them at the back end for e.g. later posting, so the photos won’t clutter your homepage immediately. Which I guess is something I have been guilty of for the past 7 days that Pressgram is alive. But from now on I will post maybe one or two photos per day only to the blog. These photos are regular posts. And as such they will also end up in my site’s and my subscribers’ feeds. For now, you can tell a Pressgram post apart from a ‘normal’ blog post, because in the feed it won’t have featured photos. Just thought I’d let you know. Want to have a look at my Pressgram photos? Here is a link to all of them on my blog so far.
So, if you have an iPhone and like to snap photos with it and share them, check out Pressgram. And while you’re at it, find me there under: @ImagesByCW, of course!
