Spring?

Tuesday and thus time for two of my favorite virtual weekly blogging challenges by Leslie and Kathy. Each week both come up with a prompt for our blogging communities, one more aimed at writing, the other more at photography. A lot of times I can nicely combine both prompts, and I will do it again this week.

  1. Leslie’s prompt today: I am so done with Winter… .show me your Spring!
  2. Kathy’s suggestion for Song-ography is “American Pie” by Don McLean

Doesn’t sound combinable?! Watch me:

“But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn’t take one more step”

Granted I am barely scratching the surface of this American classic and I actually also had a pie photo lined up, but when I saw it next to this photo? Nope, that was a no go. So, sorry, Leslie, but not really spring here yet either. What better excuse than to create our own spring with our art?

This is actually a variation of a photo I did early in 2013 as a simple composite. A spring photo, plus snow effect. That was it back in 2013. Fast forward two years and I have added more elements, paper, flowers, bird and script overlays, all part of my evolution as an artist.

There is no right or wrong. There is art.

spring, snow, grunge, fine art

Hmm, why don’t I show you the 2013 version, too? Here you go. A lot cleaner, less messy, more real, more photographic. Which ever one you prefer, I created them both and I like them both.

spring, flurries, snow, willow

Why don’t you join me along my journey and follow me on fbgo and tw if you prefer and see what I come up with next. You can, of course, also subscribe by email – (click) here or you may follow my blog with Bloglovin or my preferred reader Feedly.

Drop me a comment and you’ll make me smile!

    • Weeelll, it sure looks a lot nicer outside now, but it was still a little cold. Today is supposed to get warmer. But it will be a few more days before we see real signs of spring, I think. Thank you, Kim.

  1. Great composite! I love weeping willow trees. As for the song, eh…. not so much. In fact it is one of the ones I dislike intensely. But others enjoy it so I won’t go into the gritty detail of why it irks me so. I did hear this morning that the author of the song is auctioning it off and will announce after the auction what exactly the song is really all about. So many think it is about the death of Buddy Holly. I also heard there were more lines to it than recorded. Geeze…… it was quite long as it was….

    • Weeping willows are pretty. Unfortunately they had to cut this one down a bit due to storm damage, but at least it is still there.
And you were right about the auction and Buddy Holly 🙂 Yep, it is a very long song. I don’t actually mind it, but I can and do only hear it ever so often.

  2. I like them both too. And I like to think about spring just like that – it feels ever so slightly out of reach right now but I imagine I’ll change my tune after we get through the next few rough days.

  3. One of my most favourite songs!!
And I’d like to say bye bye bye Forever winter! ha.

Of course you know I love both photos, because you’re brilliant. but I am going to go with the more Spring one; just because I am desperate to go outside without 8 pounds of clothing on soon! LOL

    • I’ll tune in to your song, Leslie. No more winter, no more winter! Sun is shining and it is getting warmer here. And I think I saw the first small buds on trees. But we still have a ways to go.
      Thank you as always!

  4. My goodness. You really are good…really good. So “polar” opposite, I love both images.
The “American Pie” written lyric manuscript brought in 1.2 million at Christie’s Auction today. What a great song, and such an integral piece of our American history.

  5. I like both! I have never tried manipulating my photos beyond a tiny tweak here and there – since I mostly do nature shots – but it’s something that I’d like to try my hand at sometime. 😀

Found you via Pierced Wonderings’ Photo Friday!

    • Thanks for the visit, Kelly. I know what you mean about photo manipulation. My motto is to either leave the photo alone = no beyond basic contrast, tone, temperature etc. or really edit = composite, grunge etc. Both are definitely fun and art worthy.

  6. I love both of those photos! I’m beginning to appreciate photo manipulations more and more. I love how just a a few little tweaks gets you a totally different feel and mood in a photo.

Thank you for joining us again this week!

    • Very true, Jen. Like I just replied to Kelly: My motto is to either leave the photo alone = no editing beyond basic contrast, tone, temperature etc. or really edit = composite, grunge etc. Both are definitely fun and art worthy.
