Zendoodle Art for sARTurday

Zendoodle Art for sARTurday

Welcome to my (Zendoodle) s~A(R)T~urday linky party!

“There is no line between fine art and illustration; there is no high or low art; there is only art, and it comes in many forms.” James Gurney

For the past couple of weeks, since I returned home from my trip to the west coast, well, actually even before the trip, I have been so busy at work that when I got home I did not want to work at my computer, for too long. I have read this again and again from other bloggers with an office job. But this is honestly the first time in my life that I have felt this way. I love my computer and I love working on it. Just lately it has been too much. Which is why a little while back I picked up my painting brushes and colors again and started drawing. I’m sure you remember ‘The Green Lady’.

Unfortunately time is very limited on weeknights and therefore they are not suited for watercoloring. That is when I discovered zendoodling. Like many I used to ‘doodle’ as a kid and even as an adult when you are on a seemingly endless phone call (a.k.a. conference call), don’t tell me you are not doodling with your pen and notepad?

There are many variations of zendoodling, even a registered form: Inspired by the Zentangle® method of pattern drawing, which is actually how I first found it. I really have only scratched the surface of zendoodling. But I will say that it is a lot of fun, can be done with very few supplies and for just 5 minutes or 5 hours. And, important, it is oddly relaxing, some even say meditative. Just what I need at the moment.

The top image derived from me sidestepping into lettering, which I combined with a quote challenge in this previous article. I added four of my favorite quotes, handwritten with dropcaps to some of my pictures (find the post here). The second zendoodle is a work in progress. I have been working on this on and off for over a week, always adding a bit here or there. Next is the sky.

How do you like to relax?

I hope you are having a great weekend. I suspect that my husband wants us to go bike riding later, despite the frigid temperatures – brrrh – wish me luck!

I hope that over time we will be building a community dedicated to art and creating. I rather like these words said by Andy Warhol:

Don’t think about making art, just get it done.

Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it.

While they are deciding, make even more art.”

It has gotten very cool here but still doable. Came back to very cool fall after have a nice warm fall in Nola. I am attaching my link here so you can see of the pics we took and read about some of our adventures. I have been working on some new art photos too! Got some excellent cemetery shots! 🙂

Love your Zentagles. Raven loves to draw in that format. I have never tried.

I feel very much the same way. Usually, during the week the last thing I want to do is sit in front of my computer – and I still kick myself for not getting a laptop instead, at least then I could lounge in the recliner and do some things. Just recently I picked myself up a drawing pad and colored pencils and I’ve been playing with some coloring apps as well. So much fun and so relaxing. Can’t wait to see the finished result of the second drawing – love it so far!!! 🙂

I love the Zentangle/Zendoodle art form. I found it about a year ago and went crazy over it for awhile … then I realized that I took it too seriously and was spending long hours trying to accomplish what I set out to do. So, I stopped doing it, supposedly for awhile, and have yet to get back to it. Perhaps because I am like you in that there are times in our lives that seem so busy, more than usual busy, and the blog and computer seem to be harder and harder to get to. Like you I am going through one of those times even though I am retired … yes, don’t let that word fool you. Retirement is just a change from doing what you must to doing what you choose … problem is, not all the “must do’s” go away so yes, I am still busy. Love your Zendoodles and don’t worry about biking in the cold, your body will warm itself once you get going. I enjoy your posts every week, Claudia … Have a nice relaxing weekend 🙂

So when I am thinking doodling, mine look more like circles and bug eyes, nothing like this. My daughter will show me her doodles which always make me think of you because they are amazing.

Your works are very nice! pure magic!

  • Tamara

    That seems highly soothing.
I don’t think I could ever have an “office job” outside of the home, but that’s because parenting, photography and blogging are king for me. I can understand, though, that need to NOT be in front of a computer. I have it enough as is!

  • Lindsay Klein

I always doodle on the air! My coworkers must love my silly pictures the next day hahaha

  • Rorybore

I love the idea of doodling! I can’t really draw at all, but I do find it oddly relaxing and meditative to doodle away. Or even colour. I LOVE the bottom one. it’s great.
Thinking that maybe my young nephew in my story just might be a doodler. 😉

I struggle for computer time lately and sometimes I just need a break. I love to craft something during those down times as well. Love your Zendoodles!
