Beautiful Bokeh @ Fine Art Friday & Feeling Beachie Blog Hop ~ week 121

Lately I’ve become quite obsessed with beautiful bokeh. Time to get out my LensBaby! But also before I got the LensBaby and used regular lenses only, I appreciated beautiful bokeh a lot. Did you know that there are discussions in the photographer world about which lens gives you nice or not so nice bokeh? And there really are big differences. Anyways these days I have noticed myself specifically looking for situations, frames that could give me a great bokeh and even when watching films I caught myself thinking ‘hmm, that is a beautiful bokeh’ – hahaha – I am pretty sure the director did not really think about it when shooting his film.

These two shots today were taken with the LensBaby (50 mm) and my Nikon 16-35 mm. Both pictures were processed in an artistic way to my liking, but both show some beautiful bokeh, don’t you think?!

And here is from Hilary’s blog:

Each week, I plan on listing four statements with a blank for you to fill in on your own blogs. If you want to join the fun and come up with four fill in’s of your own, please email them to me . If I use them, I will add you as co-host to the hop! This week’s co-host is Donella from My Constant Thought – she came up with the last two statements!

I would LOVE it if you could please help me spread the word about this hop…. So, please tweet, FaceBook share, and add the linky to your post…

PhotobucketThis week’s statements:
1. Lately I have been too busy to spend more time on my photography and it is driving me crazy
2. I sometimes have a tendency to over-think things.
3 .My favorite type of music is rock/grunge because hmm, well, just because. Oh, and depending on my mood, it could be something totally different like e.g. classical stuff.
4. I’m always amazed by how much work my little herb garden can make. Not really that much, but I still could do without, but not with out the herbs.

  1. I love playing around with bokeh and have read so many tutorials about it. It’s easier with certain lenses but I have been able to achieve the look with both my kit lens and my 50 – 200 mm lens. It takes a little practice but I’m glad I’m learning the “hard” way!!! 🙂 I have looked at prime lenses but right now I’m really leaning towards an “all-in-one” lens (18 – 200mm) because of the type of photography I mostly shoot! It has certainly turned into one of my more expensive hobbies!!!! 🙂 Great shots by the way.

    • Hi Susi, it sure is easier with a prime lens and an open aperture to get a what is generally considered ‘real beautiful’ bokeh. However, 1) beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and 2) these two shots were not taken with prime lenses either and both at f/4. Well, the lensbaby is ‘fixed’, but most of my other lenses are zooms for their practicality, as well,. The most important thing to get bokeh is knowing which aperture to shoot and to see the light and shadow. You’re a hard worker and good learner, so I am sure you are getting it right 🙂

  2. I am in the process of deciding between two beautiful lens. The decision actually comes down to one of weight (and of course this will influence how often it gets used) and great potential Bokeh or one of F4 (not quite the prime kind of Fstop, but much easier to carry). I guess what i’m trying to say is, thanks for the two beautiful examples of what great bokeh can do for a subject.
